History of fireworks-past

The discovery of fireworks dates back to 2000 years ago in China during the Han dynasty (~200 B.C.). The very first firecracker was discovered by a man that needed fuel for his fire by accident. He threw a green bamboo stick in the fire, which had air pockets in it. When the air pockets heated up they exploded because of the pressure, which produced a very loud bang that scared every living thing, “It was named the “bursting bamboo”(Bradley, 2007) The Chinese people believed that it would scare evil spirits off. However, gunpowder was discovered about 400 to 600 years before the discovery of the pao chuk during the Sui and Tang dynasties (~600-900 A.D.) The very first pyrotechnic was believed to have discovered gunpowder, when he was experimenting with sulfurous mixtures to try and find a cure for death. h
