Summary practice 2

The carbon emissions in the middle east and north Africa has increased dramatically in the past 30 years based on official studies .A study said that a problem with carbon emissions is that countries with lots of oil and gas may use it wastefully. Carbon emissions are created by burning fossil flues to create energy. In Middle Eastern regions the emissions are high because the oil is plentiful and cheap that is why the emissions are so high. ‘Tanzeed Alam agrees that the problem of was created by the inefficient use of recourses’ but we are beginning to see changes in the right way in the UAE because they are using efficient new methods now for air conditioning to reduce C02. Another step is that the Abu Dhabi government is developing strategies to monitor the emission levels in the region.

Summary Practice 1

Gemasolar is a new solar-power plant that is based in southern Spain, backed by Masdar, Abu Dhabi. it achieved a breakthrough where it was the first solar power plant that produces electricity continuously more then 30 times. It is a field of large mirrors that reflects heat rays from the sun to the “receiver” which contains salt that is pumped up to the receiver also. The salt melts by the reflection of heat rays from the mirrors and generates steam which then turns into an energy source that generates electricity. The mirrors of this plant were the biggest challenge, where they had to be constructed in a way that it won’t be so large that it would wobble in the wind or need too much costly steel, another challenge was that the team had to build a separate control system to manage the large mirrors.
